Raglan (Ngarunui) Beach is a swimming beach in Waikato, west coast. The live panel above shows today's swim score, water temperature, wave height, wind, UV, and a four-day forecast. It uses the same Open-Meteo marine and weather data we use on the main beach dashboard, and pre-selects this beach automatically.

About the beach

Raglan is NZ's most famous surf town, and Ngarunui Beach (the patrolled black-sand beach north of the town) is where most people actually swim. The surf break at Manu Bay is left-hand and world-class; the main swim beach sits between headlands and has lifeguards.

When it swims best

November through April. Water is colder and rougher than the east coast — mid-to-high teens in summer.

What to watch for

West-coast surf beach — rips, shore-break, and strong currents. Swim between the flags on Ngarunui only. Manu Bay itself is a surf break, not a swim.

Water quality

Swim scores on this page combine live weather and marine conditions but do not include bacterial water-quality grades. Before swimming — particularly within 48 hours of heavy rain — check the LAWA site for the most recent E. coli and enterococci readings at this beach: lawa.org.nz/explore-data/swimming.
