Mount Maunganui Main Beach is a swimming beach in Bay of Plenty. The live panel above shows today's swim score, water temperature, wave height, wind, UV, and a four-day forecast. It uses the same Open-Meteo marine and weather data we use on the main beach dashboard, and pre-selects this beach automatically.

About the beach

'The Mount' is the Bay of Plenty's marquee beach — white sand, clear east-coast water, and the 232-metre cone of Mauao rising at the northern end. The main beach is patrolled over summer and runs three kilometres south along Marine Parade.

When it swims best

November through May. Water regularly hits 22 °C in peak summer and stays swimmable into autumn.

What to watch for

Shore-break at the Mauao end can surprise kids. Long, flat stretch south of that is usually gentle. Swim between the flags at the patrolled areas.

Water quality

Swim scores on this page combine live weather and marine conditions but do not include bacterial water-quality grades. Before swimming — particularly within 48 hours of heavy rain — check the LAWA site for the most recent E. coli and enterococci readings at this beach: lawa.org.nz/explore-data/swimming.
