Hot Water Beach is a swimming beach in Coromandel Peninsula. The live panel above shows today's swim score, water temperature, wave height, wind, UV, and a four-day forecast. It uses the same Open-Meteo marine and weather data we use on the main beach dashboard, and pre-selects this beach automatically.

About the beach

Hot Water Beach is famous for the hot springs that bubble up through the sand within two hours either side of low tide — dig a hole, make your own hot pool. The swimming beach itself is a long stretch of golden sand with good surf.

When it swims best

November through April for swimming. Hot springs work year-round but are most fun in summer.

What to watch for

Rips are a real and well-documented hazard at Hot Water Beach — there have been multiple drownings over the years. Swim between the flags at the patrolled section during summer, and never swim alone.

Water quality

Swim scores on this page combine live weather and marine conditions but do not include bacterial water-quality grades. Before swimming — particularly within 48 hours of heavy rain — check the LAWA site for the most recent E. coli and enterococci readings at this beach: lawa.org.nz/explore-data/swimming.
